A dramatic land, teeming with wildlife.

Stay with us and find out more about this marvelous county!

The Caithness coastline of soaring cliffs, often carved in spectacular natural arches, caves and sea stacks is truly a birdwatchers paradise.  The towering cliffs of the east and the north coasts offer ideal nesting sites for vast cities of sea-birds. The dizzying combination of spectacular cliffs and the noise and smells of our massive colonies are an experience to be long remembered.

Look out for dolphins, porpoises, sharks or even whales in the Pentland Firth, and seals at numerous points on our coastline.

Inland, the internationally famous peatlands of Caithness and Sutherland contain a vast array of peat bogs, pools and moorland, recognised as one of Europe's last great wilderness.  Home to plants, birds and animals specially adapted to this immense natural area.  Take a trip to Forsinard, by train or car, and see the peatlands at close quarters.
